PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration which combinedly occurs on an image by variation in recording positions of recording elements in a recording element array and deviation in recording positions among the recording element arrays. SOLUTION: A first adjustment value for adjusting the recording positions of a plurality of recording elements included in the recording element array is obtained, a second adjustment value for adjusting the recording positions of two or more of the recording element arrays is obtained, and then a third adjustment value is obtained by combining the first and second adjustment values with each other. After that an image is formed based on the third adjustment value. The variation in the recording positions in an ejection nozzle array and the deviation in the recording positions among the ejection nozzle arrays is adequately adjusted in the different stages so that bad effects occurring by two or more different causes can be collectively suppressed.
