A method and a device for recognizing the serial number of paper money are provided to quickly execute a recognition process by using a function and to judge the recognition serial number effectiveness by comparing output values of the function. A method for recognizing the serial number of paper money includes steps of: extracting a character string image of a part marked with the serial number by receiving a paper money image including figures and characters(S10,S20); dividing the extracted character string image into character images having the pixel size of a predetermined range by splitting the character string image according to the characters(S20,S30); generating input data by assigning the character images to a region having a predetermined pixel size, digitizing the values of pixels quantified in the correspondent regions, and then aligning the values in a serial number line(S40); inserting the input data to a neural network having finished learning basic data to indicate the correspondence among the input data and plural basic character data divided according to the characters and outputting the result as each probability value correspondent to the number of cases for each character output by the basic character data(S50); and aligning the probability values correspondent to the cases for each character output from the neural network in a descending order, choosing the case correspondent to the first basic character data having the highest probability value, and then outputting a character string by aligning the correspondent characters in order(S60,S70). |
