An image processing apparatus for a digital camera and a method thereof are provided to perform color interpolation after correcting a dead pixel for image data from an image sensor by using one LM, thereby quickly processing signals and making production of a small size possible, and reducing production costs. An image processing apparatus(200) for a digital camera comprises the followings: an LM(Line Memory) which stores image data for dead pixel correction and color interpolation; a color interpolation unit(214) which corrects a dead pixel for the image data of the LM and performs the color interpolation by using the LM for the image data in which the dead pixel is corrected; a preprocessing unit(230) which performs preprocessing for the image data from the color interpolation unit(214); an image processing unit(250) which performs color tuning, anti-aliasing, MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) processing, and white balancing for the image data from the preprocessing unit(230).
