PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To refine a device for handling blood in extracorporeal blood circulation in such a way that on the one hand it can be used securely and quickly for broadened applications, and on the other hand, it handles the blood circulating outside the body as gently as possible. SOLUTION: The device 10 for handling blood in extracorporeal blood circulation has at least one oxygenator and one heat exchanger 12. An inlet and an outlet into the oxygenator/heat exchanger unit 12 as a structural unit has a blood flow cross-section of A≥80mm<SP>2</SP>. A blood filter 24 directly coupleable to the structural unit has a blood flow cross-section which corresponds to the blood flow cross-section of the structural unit. The heat exchanger 12 is integrated with the oxygenator and consequently, a very effective heat exchanging output can be attained.
