A refrigerator system and a method for operating the same are provided to maintain the freshness of foods by predicting the change rate of the temperature of the refrigerator and smoothly controlling the rising and dropping speed of the temperature of the refrigerator. A refrigerator cools and keeps foods by operating a cooling unit. The refrigerator includes a data reception section(20) and a control unit(50). The data reception section receives weather information. The control unit predicts the change rate of the temperature of the refrigerator by analyzing the received weather information. The control unit determines the operation speed of the cooling unit according to the change rate of the predicted temperature. The control unit regulates the rising and dropping speed of the temperature of the refrigerator by predicting the following operation time of the cooling unit according to the analyzed weather information. The refrigerator includes a display section displaying weather information when yellow sand, ozone, or minute dust is generated.
