<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication device for a vehicle for reducing the size and cost of a portable machine, by dispensing with an oscillating circuit and a battery in the portable machine. <P>SOLUTION: This communication device for the vehicle has an on-vehicle unit arranged in the vehicle and the portable machine 1 carried by a user of the vehicle, and transmits a response signal to the on-vehicle unit from the portable machine 1 in response to a transmission signal from the on-vehicle unit. The portable machine 1 includes an electric power generating circuit 9 supplying electric power to a circuit in the portable machine 1 by an electric power generating radio wave transmitted from the on-vehicle unit.
