PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical film which has a useful antifouling layer and is excellent in thin film adhesion, durability and antireflection ability, and to provide an image display element using the same.

SOLUTION: The optical film has at least one layer of an optical thin film on a polyester base material in which metal content satisfies a condition specified by following formulas (1) to (3) and has the fluorine atom-containing antifouling layer as an uppermost layer at a position adjoining the optical thin film.
