PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric field emission display capable of providing a high-quality image by reducing variation and flicker of the luminance between pixels, and a method of driving the same. SOLUTION: The electric field emission display includes a front plate 11 having phosphors 19 and a back plate 12 having cold cathodes 27, cathode electrodes 23<SB>1</SB>to 23<SB>m</SB>, and gate electrodes 25<SB>1</SB>to 25<SB>n</SB>facing the phosphors 19, and displays the image by applying a prescribed voltage to the plurality of the gate electrodes 25<SB>1</SB>to 25<SB>n</SB>which are belt-like electrodes disposed on the uppermost layer and causes the vibration of the electron beam emitted from the cold cathodes 27.
