PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image forming apparatus that can suppress the cost for the apparatus and the running cost for monochromatic mode printing as much as possible. SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus has an intermediate transfer belt to transfer toner images in a plurality of colors onto a paper sheet, photoreceptors disposed for the respective color developers on the intermediate transfer belt, the first transfer unit to transfer a toner image on each photoreceptor onto the intermediate transfer belt, and the second transfer unit to transfer the toner images on the intermediate transfer belt onto the paper sheet, wherein a transfer roll for monochrome is disposed between the photoreceptor close to the second transfer unit and the paper sheet.
