PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating waste liquid by which a plurality of kinds of elements can easily be removed even when the waste liquid is high-concentration salts containing the plurality of kinds of elements such as heavy metals and/or radioactive nuclides, and to provide an apparatus to be used for the method. SOLUTION: The method for treating waste liquid comprises the steps of: packing microcapsules 6, 7, each of which contains substances selectively reacting with or absorbing heavy metals and/or radioactive nuclides, in a column 3 having an inflow port and an outflow port; and making waste liquid flow into the microcapsule-packed column 3 to remove heavy metals and/or radioactive nuclides from the flowing waste liquid.
