<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce combustion loss of acetic acid when producing crude terephthalic acid and enable reuse of water when refining the crude terephthalic acid. <P>SOLUTION: The refining method comprises dissolving crude terephthalic acid in water at high temperature under pressure, oxidizing an impurity in the crude terephthalic acid with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a metal oxide catalyst, subsequently hydrogenating the treated impurity with a hydrogen-containing gas in the presence of a noble metal-based catalyst and crystallizing terephthalic acid by depressing pressure and carrying out solid-liquid separation of the crystal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
