PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image editing apparatus capable of easily drawing a text phrase in a plurality of lines, freely laid out, on an image.

SOLUTION: The image editing apparatus displays a photographic image on an editing area 202 in an editing operation monitor. Characters in a selected lyrics phrase are drawn one by one in the order of array along the track of a touch pen 42 after the touch pen 42 touches the photographic image until it gets off the photographic image. When the touch pen gets off the photographic image, then a character to follow the last character of the character string drawn so far in the lyric phrase is specified as a starting character of drawing. When the touch pen touches the photographic image again, the rest characters in the lyrics phrase are drawn one by one starting from the specified starting character of drawing.
