VIDEO CODER PROVIDING IMPLICIT COEFFICIENT PREDICTION AND SCAN ADAPTATION FOR IMAGE CODING AND INTRA CODING OF VIDEO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of reducing a bandwidth of a signal in the case of applying coding to a video image.

SOLUTION: A predictive video coder performs gradient prediction based on previous blocks of image data (A, B and C). For a new block (X) of image data, the prediction determines a horizontal gradient and a vertical gradient from a block (B) diagonally above the new block. Based on these gradients, the encoder predicts image information based on any image processing a block adjacent to the new block in the horizontal direction or perpendicularly or in the vertical direction.
