PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economical manufacturing technology, which can manufacture a lens that can withstands manufacturing processes at high temperatures, and which can control the shape and height of the lens. SOLUTION: An optical device is so controlled as to provide refraction and diffraction characteristics. A first discrete relief structure has a curved surface for providing the refraction characteristics, and a second discrete relief structure has a minute step for providing the diffraction characteristics. The optical device is manufactured by photolithography, using materials of rather high viscosity e.g., polymers or epoxy-based materials of≥2,000 centipoises. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
