PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical transition metal complex of a transition metal complex having a hollow shell formed out of n1 transition metal atoms (n1 is an integer of 6-60) and 2n1 organic bidentates having substituents regulated so as to be oriented in the interior of the hollow shell; and to provide a method for producing the complex. SOLUTION: The spherical transition metal complex having the hollow shell is provided. The hollow shell is formed out of the n1 transition metal atoms and 2n1 organic bidentates having the substituents which are regulated so as to be oriented in the interior of the hollow shell. The method for producing the spherical transition metal complex involves reacting the organic bidentates having the substituents in a proportion of 1-5 mol with the transition metal compound of 1 mol.
