A data transferring device has portable storage medium loading sections. Data is not only copied from a copy source portable storage medium loaded in the loading section to a copy destination portable storage medium, but also copied according to a predetermined rule. This obviates the need for complicated change of the storage directory name and the file name to keep the compatibility with the type of data and the standards and to reproduce data with a portable information device or a stationary information device. Since the data stored in the copy destination portable storage medium is not overwritten or deleted, the data is prevented from being lost.
