An apparatus and a method for selecting an antenna in a digital broadcast receiving terminal are provided to minimize power consumption in using an external antenna of a digital broadcast receiving terminal having an internal antenna and the external antenna. An external antenna(224) is detachably attached to a digital broadcast receiving terminal and has excellent reception rate in comparison with internal antennas(218,220). A reception state sensing unit(226) senses the reception state of a digital broadcast signal inputted from one of the internal antennas(218,220) and the external antenna(224). When the digital broadcast signal is received through the external antenna(224), a controller(200) checks whether the digital broadcast signal can be received according to a result obtained by sensing a reception state of the external antenna(224) and if the broadcast signal can be received, the controller(200) informs a user whether or not the internal antennas(218,220) can be available. When the digital broadcast signal is received through the internal antennas(218,220), the controller(200) informs the user whether or not the external antenna(224) is required according to a result obtained by sensing a reception state of the internal antennas(218,220).
