PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effect the reading of a signal from a divided pixel having an elongated configuration easily and quickly. SOLUTION: In the solid state imaging element, a plurality of photodiodes 16 having a predetermined configuration are divided into a first divided pixel 12a occupying the central region of light receiving surface of a photodiode 12, and a second divided pixel 12b occupying a peripheral region excluding the first divided pixel 12a of the photodiode 12. The signal read-out position 12c of the first divided pixel 12a of respective photodiodes 12, and the signal read-out position 12d of the second divided pixel 12b, are provided at the opposed position of the photodiode 12. Accordingly, a distance becomes short between the signal read-out position 12d and the end of the second divided pixel 12b, and the read-out of signal from the second divided pixel 12b can be performed easily at high speed.
