A photographing device capable of providing information about real size of a subject and a method thereof are provided to display the real size information of a photographed image with the photographed image, thereby enabling a user to easily grasp the real size of the subject. A method for providing information about real size of a subject comprises the following steps of: calculating base data about real size of a photographed image(S200); generating real size information of the photographed image by using the calculated base data(S300); and displaying the generated real size information(S400). The above first step comprises the following steps of: acquiring a focal length of the photographed image; acquiring a distance from the subject corresponding to the acquired focal length; calculating the real width/length size of the photographed image by using the focal length and the distance from the subject, and the width/length size of a CCD(Charge-Coupled Device) as a variable; and calculating the real width/length size of the photographed image per a pixel as the base data from the real width/length size and resolution of the calculated photographed image.
