An apparatus and a method for improving pincushion deflection distortion in a slim type television are provided to compensate distorted image data through a scaler by using feed back information on deflection, thereby removing the deflection distortion at a slim type monitor and accordingly improving convenience of a user. An apparatus for improving pincushion distortion in a slim type television comprises the followings: an image pattern output unit(101) for outputting an image pattern for pincushion compensation; an image pattern detecting unit(102) for detecting a distortion point through a process of sensing the image pattern outputted from the image pattern output unit(101); and a pattern output compensating unit(103) which receives distortion point information detected by the image pattern detecting unit(102), and compensates image pattern output based on the received data.
