A slide open/close device in a portable terminal is provided to enhance the convenience of use, the reliability, and space utilization by making the opening and shutting a slide part implemented in a semiautomatic way. A slide open/close device in a portable terminal, where a slide part(120) is opened and closed for a main body(110) with sliding motions, is composed of a rack gear(131), a rotary cam(132), an idler member(135), and a spring member(136). The rack gear(131) is formed at one of the slide part(120) and the main body(110). The rotary cam(132) is rotatively installed at the other one with a rotation axis in the center. At one side of the rotary cam(132), a pinion gear is formed so as to engage with the rack gear(131). At the other side, a cam profile is formed so as to make a height difference along the axis line of the rotary cam(132). The idler member(135), making contact with the cam profile along the axis line of the rotary cam(132), is installed so as to make a relative motion for the rotary cam(132). The spring member(136) provides elastic force so that the idler member(135) can get in touch with the rotary cam(132) elastically.
