<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side surface type LED having a side wall reflection structure improved such that optical efficiency and radiation efficiency can be improved. <P>SOLUTION: A side-surface LED comprises a pair of lead frames used as terminals, an LED chip attached to the surface of the lead frame and electrically connected with the lead frame, a package body in which the lead frame is sealed and a concave portion used as the window of the LED is formed around the LED chip, a metal layer of high reflection efficiency integrally formed on the wall surface of the concave portion, a transparent sealing portion for forming the window of the LED by filling the concave portion such that the LED chip is sealed, and an insulating layer formed in a predetermined region of the surface of the lead frame such that the lead frame is insulated from the metal layer of high reflection efficiency. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
