<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo control device and an inertia moment identification value update method that can prevent a control performance degradation, oscillation or runaway when an identification value of inertia moment deviates widely from a true value under the influence of a disturbance or the like. <P>SOLUTION: A change rate DJ of an inertia moment identification value Jhat output from an inertia moment identification means is computed. If the change rate DJ of the inertia moment identification value Jhat is smaller than a set threshold, an inertia moment value Jn used in a control means is updated to the inertia moment identification value Jhat.
