PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recorder which can carry out a more efficient preliminary delivering operation from a viewpoint of an amount of ink consumption and a throughput even in the case of forming an image by restricting the number of nozzles applied as when "margin-less recording" is carried out, and to provide a preliminary delivery controlling method. SOLUTION: In carrying out a predetermined recording operation, it is detected whether or not recording elements of only a part of a plurality of recording elements are applied. When it is judged that only a part of the recording elements are utilized, execution of the preliminary delivering operation is judged on the basis of the number of delivering times of the part of the recording elements. When it is not judged that only a part of the recording elements are utilized, execution of the preliminary delivering operation is judged on the basis of the number of delivering times to all of the recording elements of a recording head. Even at the recording operation time when only a part of the recording elements are applied, useless preliminary delivering is prevented for non recording elements accordingly.
