PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser device capable of reducing the distortion of a laser chip and a manufacturing method for the semiconductor laser device. SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser device has a sub-mount and the laser chip joined with the sub-mount. The sub-mount is extended substantially in the vertical direction to the resonator direction of the laser chip, and has a trench dividing a joint surface with the laser chip.
