PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact change return unit for a vending machine that can prevent a coin jam in the process of passage through a coin passage and switch coin deflection to a change return/cashbox in connection with opening/closing of an outer door. SOLUTION: In the change return unit, which forms a coin deflection passage 18 branching out to a coin outlet and has therein a hopper-shaped pivoted coin deflection guide 16 for switching the passage to the change return/coin outlet in connection with opening/closing of an outer door, as a coin jam prevention means in the coin deflection passage, an attitude guide (rib projections 21, laterally corrugated surfaces 22) is formed on inner wall surfaces of the coin deflection passage, so that the attitude guide interferes with coins to roll them down into the deflection guide. The coin deflection guide 16 has an angular hopper structure supported in a case pivotally via pivots 16b, and the sidewalls are triangular to cause coins thereon to readily roll down.
