PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain outer diameter deflecting dimensions of a ground rubber covered roll in high precision for a long period of time, to shorten grinding time and to improve a surface property of the outer peripheral surface of the rubber covered roll. SOLUTION: This grinding method of the rubber covered roll to grind an outer peripheral surface of an elastic layer of the rubber covered roll 4 provided with the elastic layer made of a rubber material around a shaft of a core bar shaft 5 by a grinding wheel 6 grinds outer peripheral surfaces on both end parts of the core bar shaft 5 fixed on the rubber covered roll 4 by respectively holding and fixing them by a set of diaphragm type chucks 13, 14 and pressurizing the grinding wheel 6 made wider than length of the outer peripheral surface of the elastic layer in the axial direction along this outer peripheral surface in a state of rotating and driving each of the diaphragm type chucks 13, 14 by synchronizing them.
