A mobile communication terminal having an antenna diagnosis function and a controlling method thereof are provided to detect transmission output in accordance with transmission of a test signal and reception reflection output in accordance with the transmission output, and to calculate a VSWR(Voltage Standing-Wave Ratio) value in itself, thereby diagnosing whether an antenna is normal, and then displaying the diagnosed results. A bidirectional coupler(10) couples a transmission signal transmitted through an antenna with a reflection signal received to the antenna. A power detector(12) detects output of the reflection signal and the transmission signal coupled through the coupler(10). A controller(1) generates a test signal according as a worker checks an antenna performance checking mode to send the test signal, receives the reflection signal in accordance with transmission of the test signal to couple the reflection signal with the test signal in the coupler(10), and calculates an antenna performance checking value according to a reception output value of the reflection signal and transmission output of the test signal to compare the calculated value with a pre-stored antenna performance value, then decides whether the antenna is normal or not.
