A method for searching a phone number in a portable communication terminal is provided to supply pre-registered names and phone numbers in order whenever a jog dial is rotated, thereby removing inconvenience to directly input characters in order to search the phone numbers and enabling a user to easily search the phone numbers, and making call connection and text message transmission rapid. A method for searching a phone number in a portable communication terminal comprises the following steps of: detecting whether a jog dial for searching the phone number is rotated(S10); and searching registered names and phone numbers in order when the rotation of the jog dial is detected and providing the names and the phone numbers(S20~S41). In the above second step, the registered names and phone numbers are searched or provided in descending/ascending order according to a rotating direction of the jog dial(S20~S41).
