Treatment of hollow anatomical structures

The applicator comprises a coaxial cable (214, fig 2) having a partially extended central conductor 210'' contained within a radiation emitting dielectric body 208''. The central conductor extends only into cylindrical mid-section 215'' of the dielectric and not into the tapering tip-section 216''. Microwave radiation fed down the coaxial cable is emitted from the dielectric body, the field being formed substantially around the mid-section 215'' and apart from the tip-section 216'' (see fig 4c). The applicator may include a thermocouple for measuring temperature. The coaxial cable may have length markings to aid the surgeon in locating the applicator (figs 6, 7).
