A method for searching metadata is provided to enable a user to conveniently and quickly search a music file by offering the metadata as a search standard, and prevent disconnection of music playback even if the user searches the music file during the music playback by arranging/managing the metadata after metadata search based on a predetermined rule. A file index is set to each content file. A basic arrangement index database is generated by arranging the file index to each item of the metadata for the content file. A group index database is generated by searching a group of the content files having the same metadata value for each metadata item from the basic arrangement index database and assigning a group index to the searched group. A user selection file index database is generated by searching the content file having the metadata value corresponding to the item selected from the user and storing the file index of the searched content file. A user selection group index database is generated by storing the group index of the metadata matched with the item selected from the user.
