<p>The present invention relates to a process for increasing a yield in units of alpha-1-PI in a solution containing alpha-1-PI which is subjected to viral inactivation by solvent-detergent treatment comprising adding to the alpha-I-PI solution prior to the solvent-detergent treatment a sugar in an amount sufficient to increase the yield of alpha-1-PI following said solvent-detergent treatment.</p>
