METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ENCODING/DECODING BIT-STREAM

A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding bit streams are provided to decode bit streams encoded in various semantics using the same information recognition method. A decoder(300) includes a conditional information extracting unit(310) and a decoding processor(100). The conditional information extracting unit generates recognition information using a syntax tree which represents a hierarchical structure of syntax elements respectively corresponding to bits of an inputted bit stream and rule description information which represents connection relationship among the syntax elements. The decoding processor decodes data included in the inputted bit stream into moving picture data using the recognition information. The syntax elements include a group element and an information element.
