Method for operating a gas burner comprises actuating one or each gas valve (11) for adjusting the gas stream through a gas line (10) with a running fan (13) depending on a signal (19) from a sensor (16). When the signal from the sensor lies within a first value region the gas stream is released. When the signal lies within a second value region the gas stream is released and a warning signal is simultaneously generated. When the signal lies within a third value region a warning signal is generated and the gas stream is blocked. Preferred Features: When the signal from the sensor lies within a first value region or a second value region the gas burner ignites and when the signal lies within the third value region ignition of the gas burner stops.
