A method for the production of a metallised carrier substrate (MCS) involves (a) partly coating a substrate with a fusible printing ink by using a digital printing process, (b) metallising the entire surface, (c) heating the substrate to melt the ink and (d) removing the fluid ink together with the overlying metal layer by mechanical or ultrasound treatment. Independent claims are included for (1) security elements made from MCS obtained by this method (2) packaging elements or packaging film made from MCS obtained by this method .
