A mobile communication terminal system having a measurement function and a controlling method thereof are provided to locate plural mobile communication terminals, having infrared ports, at a start point and an end point of a certain position to be measured, respectively, and to calculate the time taken until infrared rays is returned to an original position after emitting the infrared rays to measure a distance. From an initial state, it is confirmed whether a measurement function of measuring a particular place or distance is set in the current terminal(S1,S2). If so, plural terminals are positioned at both end points of a measurement target position, respectively(S4). A terminal functioning as a start reference point emits infrared rays to a terminal functioning as an end reference point(S5). As soon as the infrared rays are received, the terminal functioning as the end reference point delivers infrared rays to the terminal functioning as the start reference point(S6). It is confirmed whether the terminal functioning as the start reference point receives the delivered infrared rays(S7). If so, a distance or length of a measurement target is calculated through reception time of the received infrared rays, then is displayed(S8).
