An internal combustion engine is provided to prevent partial side wear and non-uniformity of cooling and lubricating operation, by permitting a piston to move in a vertical direction within a cylinder. Each cylinder line has a crank shaft, and crankshaft are connected through gears to integrate power. An independent crank shaft is added if necessary. In cases where an internal combustion engine has three cylinders and three crank shafts, the crankshaft at an intermediate line serves as a main shaft. Three crank shafts are connected by the same gear ratio.
