Thienotriazolodiazepine compounds of the formula (1) (see formula I) wherein each symbol is as defined in the specification, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof or hydrates thereof, and pharmaceutical agents containing this compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof or a hydrate thereof. A pharmaceutical agent containing the inventive compound is useful as a therapeutic agent, a preventive drug or a recurrence preventive drug for inflammatory bowel diseases caused by cell adhesion, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. In addition, the inventive compound can be used for the prophylaxis and treatment of venous insufficiency and venous ulcer or maintained remission of the both. Moreover, inasmuch as the low toxicity of the inventi ve compound has been established by experiments using animals, the compound is useful as a highly safe pharmaceutical product.
