A universal joint includes a yoke with a leg (22) having an aperture (28) extending therethrough. The aperture (28) includes an annular groove (30). The universal joint also includes a cruciform having a trunnion (44), a bearing cup (48) positioned in the aperture (28) and mounted on the trunnion (44) and a retention member (60) including an outer ring (62) having a first surface (66) and a second surface (64). The retention member (60) further includes a spring tab (72) axially extending beyond the first surface (66) and disposed within the aperture (28) such that the spring tab (72) biasedly engages the bearing cup (48).
