A control unit (6) has a selection output section and a determination section (9). The control unit (6) controls operation of an air bag device (2) based on output signals (S4, S5, S7, S8) each from satellite sensors (4, 5) arranged in a collision zone in the front part of a vehicle (1), from an X-direction sensor (7) for detecting collision acceleration in the traveling direction of the vehicle, and from Y-direction sensor (8) for detecting collision acceleration in the direction orthogonal to the traveling direction. The selection output section takes out an output signal with a larger value among output signals (S40, S50) from the satellite sensors (4, 5) and an output signal (S80) from the Y-direction sensor (8). The determining section (9) responds to the output signal (S7) from the X-direction sensor (7) and determines collision of the vehicle (1). A threshold value level for the collision determination in the determination section (9) is set by the output signal selected by the selection output section. When the output signals (S4, S5) from the satellite sensors (4, 5) are not obtainable, the threshold value level for the collision determination is set by the output signal (S80) from the Y-direction sensor (8) to secure appropriate collision determination operation. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007 |
