A high strength and low thermal expansion alloy capable of maintaining characteristics such as high tensile strength, excellent twisting characteristics and low thermal expansion highly stably, and a high strength and low thermal expansion alloy wire using a V-contained Fe-Ni-based alloy are provided. As a high strength and low thermal expansion alloy wire having improved twisting characteristics manufactured using an alloy, the high strength and low thermal expansion alloy wire having improved twisting characteristics is characterized in that the alloy has a composition comprising, by mass percent, 0.1 to 0.4% of C, more than 0.5% to not more than 3.0% of V and 25 to 40% of Ni, and satisfying requirements represented by 3<=V/C<=5, 0.9<=V/Cr(in case of containing Cr), and 37%<=Ni+Co<=40%(in case of containing Co), with the balance being Fe and inevitable impurities. The alloy further comprises one or more constituents selected from the group consisting of, by mass percent, 2.0% or less of Si, 2.0% or less of Mn, 3.0% or less of Cr and 10% or less of Co. |
