The synchronizer has three armament units (20) housed in a hub (12) and each comprising two stops (80) formed on a cassette. Complementary stops (90) are formed on two stop splines that are disposed on both side of a corresponding reference spline of a jaw clutching sleeve (14) that is disposed around the hub. The stops limit the relative axial movement of the sleeve and the armament units in a range of positions such that balls (58) of the armament units are confined between the sleeve and the armament units.
