A webbing winding device (10), wherein a worm gear (34) connected to a motor (44) is meshed with a gear wheel (32), and when the worm gear (34) is rotated, a drive force is transmitted to a winding shaft (20) through the gear wheel (32) and a clutch (26) to rotate the winding shaft in the winding direction. The helix angles of the teeth of the worm gear (34) and the gear wheel (32) are set so that a thrust force generated along the axial direction of the gear wheel (32) faces the leg plate (16) fixing side of a case (30). Since the thrust force acts on the leg plate (16) fixing side of the case (30), i.e., on a frame (12), the case (30) and the clutch (31) need not have high strength and rigidity. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
