PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic shift control system for carrying out real-time automatic shift control in accordance with information obtained by an on-vehicle camera. SOLUTION: The automatic shift control system comprises the on-vehicle camera 1 mounted on an automobile, a travel road recognition device 2 for recognizing the status of a travel road in accordance with an image obtained by the on-vehicle camera 1, and an AT control device 3 for performing shift control in accordance with information obtained by the travel road recognition device 2. The AT control device 3 performs optimum and safe real-time AT control in accordance with not only vehicle information such as a vehicle speed but also travel road information (curve or downslope) from the on-vehicle camera 1.
