Method of operating a sensor assisted system in a vehicle such as a driver assist system using two brightness sensors with different but overlapping ranges

u The method uses a first sensor measuring in a first range, to determine the ambient brightness. A second sensor with a different measurement range overlapping with the first, is also used. Measurements from both sensors are taken and a continual measurement is derived from these for the ambient brightness. The range of values corresponds to a greater brightness interval than that of the first or second measurement range. Independent claims also cover a vehicle having sensors for carrying out the method.
