<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording method and an apparatus which easily controls a device with respect to changes in time and is capable of accurately recording desired image in an image recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: A laser beam L is detected by a photosensor 68 to calculate changes in the light quantity so as to correct fluctuations due to the lapse of time in a state of an exposure device 10. The laser beam L is also detected by a photosensor 69 for calculating changes in the beam diameter and mask data are corrected by these changes.
