<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the service lives of the members of processing components by reducing motions of a main body, which are caused by preliminary processes other than image formation. <P>SOLUTION: In the case of a color image, a drive control process for exactly aligning images is performed on the basis of color or monochrome image information prior to an image forming operation. Subsequently, the process of controlling the amount of toner to be attached is performed. In the case of a monochrome image, on the other hand, the drive control process is not performed. Instead, the process of controlling the amount of toner to be attached is immediately performed only for black.
