PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a median filtering device and its method for establishing bright image quality by discriminating digital noises from image data and reducing the digital noises using a median filter. SOLUTION: The method includes a step of forming a block with a plurality of pieces of pixel data into a certain unit area including a central pixel and a plurality of neighboring pixels next to the central pixel, a step of dividing the pixel data within the unit area into a subunit area smaller than the unit area, a step of aligning data values of the pixel data which is divided in every subunit area in a predetermined order, a step of extracting a mean value from the pixel data aligned in each subunit area, a step of calculating an average value of the mean value extracted from each subunit area, and a step of substituting a central pixel data corresponding to the central pixel of the unit area with the average value.
