PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generator with stabilized ion generation function and long service life by sustaining and maintaining an ion supply quantity of the ion generator generating ions. SOLUTION: This ion generator 1 stabilizes the quantity of generated ions by detecting an abnormal current of an ion generation device (for example, 2a) in operation among a plurality of ion generation devices 2a, 2b, 2c or by automatically switching to a plurality of normal ion generation devices (for example, 2b) with no declined ion generation function after a definite period of time. The ion generation device can be regenerated by applying vibration of a high frequency oscillator 14 to the ion generation device contaminated with adhered and deposited foreign matter for removing the adhered and deposited foreign matter to suppress and prevent contamination of the device.
