PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochromic device which has extremely high color purity, with which precise color control is conducted, and with which sharp and clear full color image display is produced. SOLUTION: The electrochromic device 10 having an electrochromic layer structure in which a pair of electrode structure bodies 11, 12 where transparent electrodes 2, 7 and porous electrodes 4, 8 are formed on supporting substrates 1, 6 are disposed by placing respective sides of porous electrode formation opposite to each other via an electrolyte layer 5, wherein at least one or more kinds of organic EC coloring agents which have an absorption band in the visible region in a steady state and which turn into a decolorization state by starting an electrochemical oxidation or reduction reaction and consequently lose the absorption band in the visible region are supported on at least one out of the porous electrodes 4, 8 constituting the pair of electrode structure bodies 11, 12, and reversibly conducting coloring or decoloring, is provided.
